Positive Parenting Week 12th - 18th May 2008
For 2008 we worked with Playhouse Disney Live! on Tour with a theme based around 'Family Time'.
Positive Parenting Campaign was in its 11th year and this year we delivered the Positive Parenting message with a company whose roots stem from family entertainment, Playhouse Disney Live! and the theme was 'Family Time'.
In the Good Childhood Inquiry commissioned by The Children's Society, it is evident families are the most important influence on children's lives. Positive family relations have far-reaching effects on developing children who are high achievers and are more confident in social skills. As always, Positive Parenting week is first and foremost designed to applaud parents on their parenting journey and through a series of articles offer parents tips on being positive in our role as parents. Denise Thornton, Educational Child Psychologist maintains that: " there is a strong link between children who have poor behaviour and the amount of time children spend with their immediate family. Children who feel ignored by their family tend to use their behaviour as a way of communication this." from her article on Family Time, Positive Parenting Week booklet, Denise gives parents ideas on introducing or maintaining family time.
The Positive Parenting booklet contains articles from specialist in their fields such as 'Family Time' by Denise Thornton, Educational Child Psychologist, Children and Self Esteem, Gael Lindenfield psychotherapist and author, Jon Gilmartin Early Years Advisor 'I CAN' childrens commincation and language charity. (Tumble Tots charity for 2008).

Playhouse Disney Live! on Tour who were the sponsors of the Positive Parenting Campaign toured the UK. For the first time, live performances included characters from four Playhouse Disney TV shows and the colourful worlds of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Little Einsteins, My friends Tigger & Pooh and Handy Mandy. The tour visited Newcastle, Grimsby, York, Liverpool, London. Edinburgh, Nottingham, Bristol and Braehead.
